Ian Svenonius

timandianI was in Seattle last week and just so happened to meet up with Ian Svenonius. You may remember him from the Make-Up or Nation of Ulysses (who played here in Richland in 1991). Ian has a new book out titled ‘Supernatural Strategies for Making a Rock ‘n’ Roll Group’. Ian is also currently fronting a band called Chain and The Gang. If you are a fan of Ian’s work I suggesting checking out both book and band.

Woodshedding + New Stuff

So after two solid months of working on the website in my spare time I can finally say that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  The new store is complete and up and running.  Every song on every record ever released by Funkytonk is now available for digital download.  It was nostalgic for me to go back through some of that stuff that I haven’t thought about in a while.  There are Tri-City and Funkytonk classics dating back to 1991, some are being introduced digitally for the first time ever.  Anyhow the idea is that you can go through and grab just the songs you want and make your own mix tape.

Spirit Animals

I also have been trying to construct a community blog in place of the message board.  The easy part is installing the blog, the challenge is trying to keep something like this spam free.  I am still tweaking it, but the idea is that if you want to start a blog on the Funkytonk community page you will either have to email me or be invited by a current blogger.  Anybody is allowed to comment though, but to author a blog you will have to go through the spam prevention step of contacting me to sign up or be invited.  I will also have the feeds to some other interesting blogs from around the world on the community page that I think everybody will enjoy.  If interested in authoring a blog, please contact me and I will get you set up. It will be a free space so anything goes, band blogs or just random rants are all welcome.

Exciting news!!! Brandon from Spirit Animals is keeping The Stove Top alive.  I can’t wait to see another show there.

Pets has been recording a bunch of stuff.  Its coming along very nice.  Hopefully some shows will be in the near future.

Bye for now – Tim.

Something you may or may not want to know.

Folks,

I disabled the message board. The spam bots took it over. Yes, there was a small group of people that actively used the board, and this is possibly the end of an era as I believe the Funkytonk site has run a message board for the last 13 years. I dont know if a new board is in the works. I do feel like there should be some avenue for people of this community to discuss music, art and whatever. Even if only 5 people use it, I think it would be nice to have something that isn’t part of craigslist, facebook, etc. I have time this week to figure it all out. Hopefully you all can support me in this endeavor.

Side notes and discussion possibilites:
1.Pets will not be playing any shows this month as was previously posted.
2.Is Walmart the problem, or is it the companies that keep selling there stuff to walmart.
3.This didn’t happen overnight.
4.Whats going on with the Spirit Animals?
5.We all live in the Tri-Cities again??? Slogan for 2013 “Keep Tri-Cities Normal”
6.Does Aaron Nelson hate my guts? Yes or No (circle one)

Summer is over!!

Alot of people have been emailing me saying that summer is over. Ok I get it. Thanks. I am not sure what is going on in September, but I have heard that October is bringing some really great shows from our out of town friends who will be venturing over this way. More info soon. In the meantime, I will be adding a few more videos to the library, finishing up the next weird animals skit, and starting to record some Pets sounds.
